New WooCommerce stores use the Cart and Checkout blocks by default. Many loyalty plugins were written for the older shortcode checkout, so after the switch their "use your points" box, their points-to-earn message, or both quietly disappear. Here's how to tell what's going on and what to do about it.
Check which checkout you're using
Open Pages → Checkout in WordPress. If the editor shows a "Checkout" block, you're on the block checkout. If the page contains [woocommerce_checkout], you're on the classic one. Do the same for the Cart page; the two can differ.
Why classic loyalty plugins vanish
Classic checkout plugins print their HTML through PHP hooks such as woocommerce_review_order_before_payment. The block checkout is a React app that talks to the Store API, and it never runs those hooks. A plugin has to integrate with the blocks on purpose: register data with the Store API, render into a block "slot", and apply discounts through the Store API so totals update.
WooCommerce shows a warning under WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → Features (and on the Checkout block in the editor) when an active plugin hasn't declared that it supports the blocks. That warning is the quickest sign you've found the cause.
Your options
1. Update the plugin
Check the plugin's changelog for "Cart and Checkout blocks" support. Several loyalty plugins added it during 2024 to 2026, sometimes only for showing points and not yet for redeeming them. Test both in a private window with a customer account that has points.
2. Switch the cart and checkout back to shortcodes
As a stopgap, replace the Checkout block with the Classic Checkout block (or the [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode), and do the same for the cart. Your loyalty plugin will reappear, but you give up the faster block checkout and the payment and shipping integrations built for it.
3. Move to a plugin built for blocks
Wren Loyalty renders its points panel inside the Cart and Checkout blocks, applies the discount through the Store API, and works the same way in classic checkouts. It can import balances from WooCommerce Points and Rewards, YITH, WPLoyalty, WP Swings, MyRewards, Simple Points and Rewards and myCred, so customers keep their points.
How to test any loyalty plugin in 5 minutes
- Create a test customer and give them points.
- Log in as that customer in a private window and add a product to the cart.
- Check the cart shows the points to earn and a way to use points.
- Apply points, then change the cart quantity. The discount should update or shrink to stay within your limits.
- Place the order with a test payment method and confirm the balance went down.
- Cancel the order in the admin and confirm the points came back.
